The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) Module is designed to equip clinical pharmacists & healthcare professionals with advanced knowledge and practical skills necessary to develop effective therapeutic plans for critically ill children in PICU settings.

The Module emphasizes evidence-based practices and the essential role of clinical pharmacists in the pediatric intensive care team.

  • Fluids:
  • Understand fluid calculations in PICU, including daily fluid requirements, replacement strategies, and the use of IV fluids in critical cases.
  • Electrolytes:
  • Review common electrolyte imbalances such as hypokalemia, hyponatremia, and calcium disturbances, and their correction in critical care.
  • Nutrition:
  • Learn about the importance of adequate nutrition, evaluating nutritional needs, and managing complications associated with parenteral and enteral feeding.
  • Hemodynamics:
  • Analyze pediatric circulatory functions, including blood pressure monitoring, cardiac output measurement, and the use of vasopressors and vasodilators.
